Current Obsessions: Spring Edition
Recent purchases I am loving, styling ideas, and prepping for the new season
I have always described myself as an Autumn/Winter person. I am not a Summer girl by any means. But Spring has always fallen in somewhat of a neutral category for me. While I loved the blooms, extra sunshine, and rain puddles, Spring also meant the looming presence of Summer, which, to me, just meant walking through a concrete jungle in my office clothes, sweating by the time I made it to work.
However, since moving out of Chicago to somewhere much greener, I find myself looking at Springtime with a new sense of excitement. I’m surrounded by nature, now, so the seasons are no longer solely marked by the temperature outside, but also by the leaves on trees, gardening (I actually have outdoor space here???), the slow but sure return of green hues in the grassy fields outside the window of my home office.
This to say, in the past I have shunned these seasons but now I welcome them with open arms. Dare I say, I might be becoming a Spring person.
Which, of course, means being very excited for to dress for (slightly) warmer weather!
Springtime Favorites
I have been doing quite a bit of shopping lately as the temperatures steadily begin to (minimally) increase. I know people say this about winter, but I actually think it is Spring that is the perfect opportunity to get creative with layering. In the Wintertime, the coat is the outfit, right? But in the Spring, I can finally ditch my heavy, wool winter coat and replace it with a lighter one, which can act as an accent piece for your outfit, rather than being the look itself.
I’ll admit, my ~light coat~ collection is lacking, so I’ve picked up some pieces to hopefully turn that around.
The first is this Abercrombie topcoat. It is a lightweight version of my trusty long wool winter coat and is very Olsen-esque.
Next up are two items from one of my favorite knitwear brands, James Street Co. They just launched their first pieces from their Spring-Summer collection, and I had to get my hands on the Lowe Pullover in Cotton. I was torn between the color Cobalt or Milk but ultimately went with Milk since I realized I don’t own many white/cream sweaters. It is absolutely gorgeous, soft, and perfectly oversized. It is a bit of an investment piece (at least for me) but this brand has never let me down in terms of quality.
In the fall, they launched new colors of their Sloane Vee pullover, and I finally managed to snagged myself one in the color maple (bought it secondhand). I love the charcoal color, but it is sadly sold out, so will be keeping an eye on their archives. I sized up in this and I’m glad I did since I like my sweaters very slouchy and oversized.
I recently also put in an H&M haul for some new basics, but while I was browsing, I came across these fun sunglasses that I think are perfect for spring with the tortoiseshell detailing and pastel green tinted lenses.
Like I said above, I am trying to build up my collection of light jackets, so I also grabbed this gorgeous jacket. It has a corduroy collar which I thought was a perfect detail for transitional weather. I added this paisley scarf to my cart, too, which I thought would look really cute paired with the jacket, along with a white tee, jeans or trousers, and some loafers or flipflops, weather depending. I’m not much of an accessory person but I’m trying to change that, so this is me stepping out of my comfort zone.
The final piece I want to share are these Uniqlo trousers, which I got in both the dark brown and off white. I realized the only trousers I own are black, so wanted to get some casual but tailored ones to add to my wardrobe for spring and summer. I love the barrel leg and wanted a non-denim option to reach for so these were perfect.
Before we get into outfit ideas, I wanted to end this section with a quick reflection on the season to come. Aptly, is very much a time of growth for me in my personal life. I am feeling reborn in many ways— career wise (starting a new job soon!), aesthetically, spiritually, and in terms of my entire lifestyle. It is amazing to me how much I managed to change my life for the better over the course of the past six months or so and these changes have shifted my entire outlook. I am excited for warmer weather, flowers, and rain showers and I welcome this new season (both in climate and in life) with open arms.
Now, please enjoy some styling ideas. As you can see, graphic design is my passion, but I TRIED, okay??
Until next time,
xx Meghan
